{1} What is something that you currently spend money on that you consider a splurge or frivolous?

Fresh Flowers!  I just can't help it in the spring!

{2} Tell us about your first paying job. How old were you?

Baby sitting from the time I was old enough to carry a baby on my hip!  When you have a mother that came from a family of 12 children, who was the second oldest, there are a lot of babies!!  Although the majority  of the time I did not get "paid", eventually I went outside the family to earn money to buy material to make a new outfit!!

{3} Do you plan date nights and extras into a monthly/weekly budget?
No, not really.  I don't go out to eat very often and living in a small town there is not a lot of extra circular stuff to do, so when I want to do something, I just don't worry about it.

{4} Share one of your money saving tips with us.

I do all my grocery shopping at our local Kroger.  I receive gas points and use them every month to fill up my tank. Gas is currently $4.09 in my area!!   I also use coupons when grocery shopping.  I save a lot of money doing these two things.

{5} If you won the lottery - would you spend it frivolously or use what you need and save the rest? Why?

I would not go crazy, but I would certainly splurge on a few things and I would definitely travel more.  It would depend on how much I won, of course, but, when you are my age, there is less time to check off that bucket list!

I Won and It's Hung!

Back in January,  I was the lucky winner over at Emreen's blog visit her here at Liven Things Up.  I finally received my wonderful, beautiful prize!  If you do not follow her, please pop over and give her some blog love.  Thank you very much. 
My gorgeous Ramsign house number sign valued at $99, plus free shipping.  This one is  the Arrowhead with single trim, which I got to choose from a lot of different ones.  The background is a dark green enamel.  I do admit that I received it last Friday, but of course I had to wash down my mail box and get it installed before I could show it to you.  It is really beautiful and I love it.  Thank you Emreen and Ramsign.  Please go check them out here, you too can have a snazzy mailbox!

I think I may have the snazziest mailbox on the street!!  What do you think?

My Happy List!

My favorite time of the week is hosted by the fabulous Mamarazzi at Our Dandelion Wishes.

1.  Today, I am so thankful for this beautiful glorious day.  The sun is shining, the birds are singing and Spring is absolutely bursting at the seams!  All these things together make me one happy girl.

2.  I am also happy that I will be able to start gardening soon.  I am trying to hold off and be patient since Spring has sprung so early.  I'm afraid that we will have a few cold snaps because we are having May weather and it's March!!  So, I have planted a few herbs in pots, but if the weather turns bad I can put them in the garage for safe keeping.  Gardening and hopes of more gardening soon makes me so happy!


3.  I am happy that although I'm working today, I can see outside and still enjoy this beautiful day.

4.  Seeing things that survived the winter makes me very happy.

If it's not Spring, I don't know what is?

It is in the mid 80's today, beautiful and almost H.O.T.!  Everything in my yard looks as if it's late April or May.  It's March 19, right??  Well, you tell me...
I could not resist, I made my Spring/Summer wreath...
Can you see my adorable dragonfly?  I love him so much!

My pot of flat leaf parsley and chives is left over from last year!  I'm serious!  It's got to be a record...
I planted my dill and sweet basil...
The beginnings of my red buds and dogwoods....

The grass in the front yard is full of wild violets...
Look how green the grass is....

I sure hope it's here to stay, otherwise, I'll be so sad!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!! Have a little luck of the Irish!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to everyone!  I hope you have all had a lucky day!

Here's what I've done so far:
 Went to Kroger and purchased my Corned Beef Brisket...
Rinsed it off with cold water, including the spice packet...
 Placed it in my pot and added cold water, approximately 2" or so, don't drown it!  Open the spice packet and sprinkle in the Shamrock love!!
 Add about 1/2 teaspoon of Kosher Salt...
1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground fresh black pepper...
Put a lid on it, sorta cocked and turn heat to about medium.  Once it comes to a slight boil, turn the stove eye as low as it will go.  Secure the lid tightly and simmer it low and slow all day.

Okay, I'm back now.  My corned beef has slowly simmered almost all day.
Turn up the heat to medium and throw in  cubed potatoes.  I prefer to use red potatoes, leave the peeling on, just wash them really well.  If they are large, quarter them, small ones throw in whole or halfed.  Yesterday, I had some idahao's that needed to be used, so I just peeled and large diced them.  (Use as many potatoes as you need depending on the number of people you are serving).  I used three medium potatoes.  Add a little kosher salt and ground black pepper.
Put the lid on and cook until the potatoes begin to get fork tender.  Then add your chopped cabbage.
Add kosher or sea salt and fresh cracked black pepper to taste...
Put the lid back on and simmer until the cabbage is tender and delicious.
Slice the corned beef and serve...  Yum.  It is really good.  I always have corn on the cob with mine, but it's a one pot meal in itself and nothing else is really necessary.

I was asking myself this question yesterday when the thermometer on my vehicle said 86 degrees!  and I was sweating.  Really?  Really??

My daffodil's were drooping...
but, my love bunnies were fine!  Thank goodness.

WWTK - FOOD!!!!

WELL!!  We ask for it and we are getting it!!  Want to know it and we'll probably find out!!  :D  So, here we go for this weeks "We Want To Know"!!

I would like to know what the WWTK's participants serve when they have company for dinner. What are your go-to recipes?
It really depends on how large or small the group is and what other things are being served, if any, and how fancy or casual the event is.  If I were hosting a dinner group, casual, I would do a Cesar salad (very few ingredients, but a WOW!) , meat of tenderloin, either pork or beef (grilled of course), bread (buy it, don't be silly, there are so many wonderful natural, "good breads" out there, why bother?)  unless you are a huge baker.  A simple dessert, such as coffee ice cream/or butter pecan with a drizzle of chocolate sauce and an sprinkle of nuts, it's perfect.... Stick a cookie in it and everyone is happy!   It's all do ahead, room temperature (since the meat must rest anyway, dress salad, last minute, simple but elegant).  Totally no stress.


 If it's a large group gathering, I'd do Chicken Salad (make ahead)  stuffed tomatoes (Roma's cut in half)  (right before)  and country ham rolls with apple butter.

Seafood, every kind, shrimp, crap, scallops, oysters, clams, and on and on..... and all I can eat!!  $crew making it myself, if it's my last meal and I HAVE a choice,....  add some whole grain pasta, asparagus, thrown in some cheese and herbs and take me LORD!.... a glass of wine would be Divine....

I am not a huge "sweet" person.  A bite takes me a long way.  I cannot understand people who  can sit and and eat a HUGE snickers bar in 5 minutes...???alone...   OMG ???, One bite and I'm O.U.T.!!  I'll take a glass of wine for my dessert anytime of the day or night!! and I prefer it to be red! 
BUT, My favorite desserts would be Key Lime Pie, Red Velvet Cake and last but not least....  drum roll please!!
Coconut Cream Pie, but I still only want a bite or two....

Boston BUTT baby.  It's the one thing you can put in a crock pot and not screw up.  Just buy one that fits YOUR crock pot well and the lid fits, salt, pepper, put the lid on and be so happy tomorrow and for more days than you can imagine!!  My next....   would be a turkey breast, no fail.
{5} Mamarazzi is having a hard time getting breakfast in everyday so she wants to know:
What are you eating for breakfast these days?
Low fat Greek yogurt with honey...  when in a hurry or on work days.. throw in a few blueberries... or
One egg, (in the microwave) on whole wheat flax seed toast...  YUM... protein or  
Real oatmeal..  I add flax seed, natural sunflower seeds, one packet of truvia and tons on Cinnamon and sometimes dried cranberries... 
Breakfast foods are not my faves, especially not sweet things, (unless it's a Cinnabon) and then I'll suffer through it!, but I try to do something healthy!  Toast and Almond Butter is my default breakfast....  Use up to  2 teaspoons over your hot toast.   I make my own almond butter, and sometimes add thinly sliced banana or apple and it is delicious!! satisfying and yummy for the tummy!  
Well, that's more than one, but who's counting?
