I was so surprised yesterday when I got home from work and had a unexpected surprise birthday package.  My sweet friend Rachelle from Aleeraye Etsy Shop had sent me a special birthday present.  She designs the most unique one of a kind beautiful pieces of jewelry.  She wanted to design a special necklace especially for me and since my birthday is in May, she used emerald green stones and silver.  It's so beautiful and unique, I cannot wait to wear it.

Wait till you see how my package arrived...
The ribbon has lobsters on it, she is located in Naples, FL, there was a little bird's nest with a bird sitting on it and a beautiful red rose.  I really hated to open it, but I had to.  Even the package inside was very cute.

When I opened the box, I was so stunned.  I was speechless.  She is a wonderful talented jewelry designer and creator and I hope you will visit Rachelle at her Etsy shop.  One of the things I love is that if you have a special dress or outfit you can usually go to her store and find just what you are looking for.

Please visit Rachelle here and please tell her I sent you.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Hugs,  Ginger

Follow up to my giveaway!! Anniversary

I just wanted to share a follow up to the giveaway I hosted a few weeks ago and the surprise package that Anita @ Cedar Hill Ranch received.  You can visit her blog and  see her post here.  I hope you will visit Anita's blog, it is so awesome and maybe link up to her Cowgirl Up Linky Party sometime.  It is one of my favorite parties of the week.  Check it out.

This is what she received:

A Gift Bag of Merle Norman Goodies for a pampering, some Small Town handcrafted bars of soap, one with horseshoes and one with cat paws.  I sent the horseshoes in honor of the Kentucky Derby and the cat paws in honor of the Kentucky Wildcats winning the NCAA championship and besides she has a ranch, so they were both so fitting.  I scented them with rain forest essential oil for the whole effect.  Martha Stewart labels because we all know Anita loves to label things,  and last but not least!!!  a Small Town Sexy t-shirt!

I hope Anita enjoys her goodies as much as I enjoyed sending them and I hope to have many more giveaways in the future.

I hope you all have a wonderful, safe and cool Memorial weekend.

Love and hugs,  Ginger

How I Spent My Birthday!

After several days of totally freekin out with the contract on this house, I was totally tired.  So, I went to the country.  What else can a girl do to get away?  Here's a little of how I spent my day yesterday....

I enjoyed seeing my wildflowers ...
I'm just so totally in love with them...
could not believe how my tomatoes have grown... got lots of little ones just waiting....
I was so shocked when I saw my lavender...  WOW!
then,  I spotted my little humming bird, they facinate me so much...
my neighbor was in the process of cutting his hay, there is nothing like a freshly cut field of hay... trust me.

I totally love this sight, no matter how many times I see it, but with fresh cut hay, well...
to the moon!!!  how awesome was this.  I think it may have been singing happy birthday???
then, out of the blue, the big time, real time, awesome farmers moved in and started planting the bottom's in corn.  It's so amazing to watch and see it grow each week.  Our farmers are so awesome!!
My garden, I love it and it's doing pretty well right now, we just need some rain...
beautiful clear sky,
how could you ask for anything more for your birthday?  It was perfect...

Love and hugs, have a fabulous week.

I have not had one minute to do a post this week and it's killing me.  I'm afraid to tell what's going on, I just don't want to jinks it, but what the heck.  Got a contract on the house, been going back and forth for over a week and they finally got weak! caved in, met the price!!  :D   If all goes well, I'm moving to an undisclosed location by the end of June.  I feel like a witness protection victim!  Not really, but I just want to let everyone know that if you do not see or hear from me, it's because I'm cleaning out and packing my you know what off!  Just have not found what I really want and not going to settle.  I'll check in on you when I can.  Have a fabulous week,
Love and hugs,

Happy Mother's Day!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day.  I wanted to make a post in honor of my mother that I lost March 25, 1985.  I thank GOD for her, she was so special and beautiful and I thank HIM for choosing her to be my mother...  She is so missed.  I can only say, please take advantage of the time that you have with your mother, love her and cherish each day because you do not know what tomorrow brings and it can ALL be gone tomorrow.

This photo was taken of me and my Mother on December 31, 1984, my wedding day and it was one of the last photos taken of her before her death.  Happy Mother's Day Mama, I miss you so and I hope all Mother's had a wonderful day today.  Love and hugs,

How I prepare for the Kentucky Derby!

It's really getting exciting around these parts of my Small Town.  Tomorrow is the Kentucky Oaks Horse Race and then, drum roll please......  Saturday is the Kentucky Derby, the most exciting two minutes in sports history!  Kentucky being such a big time Thoroughbred Horse state to begin with and then the famous horse track in Lexington, Keeneland and the superstar of horse racing, Churchill Downs in Louisville, this weekend is M.A.J.O.R.  B.I.G!!  We have been selling dresses and hats the past few weeks like crazy.  Literally, they are flying out the doors.  So now, after a long day tomorrow, I am ready to sit back and enjoy the festivities....  Here's what I've done to get ready...

Checked my herb garden for mint....  must make mint simple syrups for Kentucky Mint Julep's and have plenty for garnishing.
I think I'll have enough.

Cut mint and wash and let it dry.  In a sauce pan, add one cup sugar and two cups water and bring to a boil until sugar dissolves.  Turn off heat and had about a cup of mint leaves.  Let it cool down, remove mint leaves and there you have mint simple syrup.  To make your mint julep, fill a glass to the brim with crushed ice.  Add your favorite bourbon (must be Kentucky Bourbon, this is the bourbon capital of the world, you know) and if it's not made in Kentucky then it's not bourbon.  Add your mint simple syrup to taste, garnish with mint and enjoy.
Okay, I think I will....  you must make sure that's it's perfect before you serve others.

I get out my Kentucky Derby print and put on my foyer table.  This particular one is from 2010 and is my all time favorite.
Next, I make a quick fresh flower arrangement so I can use more fresh mint...
I found these white peonies at our farmers market and added lots of mint and the smell is lovely.

I put my Lucky kitchen towel out...
Everyone needs a lucky kitchen towel...

Then I get out my handmade horseshoe soaps and put in all my bathrooms.  These are a pretty green and scented with verbena...
I put out my little Derby garden flag at the end of the driveway...

All that's left is my outfit....
I don't have a clue what I'll be wearing tomorrow, but I know I will be carrying this...

Saturday's menu will include:

Drunken Ribs and Chicken (BBQ sauce made with Bourbon) You can find my recipe here.
Brown Sugar and Bourbon Baked Beans
Homemade Potato Salad
Rosemary Yeast Rolls
and of course, Derby Pie!

I will share pictures and recipes next week.   Hope you have a great weekend and hope that some of you enjoy the Kentucky Derby!
