The Big Surprise of Rural Kentucky...

It is still so hot here that it's really difficult to do anything outside except for early hours of the day.  We decided to take "a ride" yesterday before it got too hot.

We just started driving on the back roads just outside of town and here is what we stumbled upon.

This sign was in the ditch on the opposite side of the road.

I thought it was sorta odd that there was no identification on the store itself, but what do I know?

Just as we passed the General Store and Flea Market there was a huge gathering of cars in a large parking lot and tons of people gathering around.  Tents and lawn chairs everywhere.  We parked and here is what we found.

It was the Annual Manton, KY Bluegrass Festival!  Who knew?  We stuck around for an hour or so.  Although I'm no expert on Bluegrass, but it was really more "OLD" country whining, than any bluegrass I've ever heard.  But it was nice to be outside and see folks having a good time.  It was a great surprise and we really enjoyed it.  We may need to get out more often, you never know what you might stumble upon.

  1. Oh my gosh I am so jealous of your small town America. Nothing like that here but I will be happy for what I do have. No "whining". Funny about the music.

  2. That is always SO much fun! We love to go for a drive and happen upon a festival! Just the best way to spend an afternoon! ♥ And thanks for grabbing my button, girlfriend! You're the FIRST! ♥

  3. What was with no signage on the store? SOunds like y'all had fun. I am getting caught-up on reading your blog today!

I am much better. I just can't seem to bounce back 100% after my surgery! It must be stress.

  4. What a fun day that must have been! I love the way you described the music! Hugs, Cindy
