Fire up the barbie and get the ribs drunk!

I suppose you think I'm nuts?  But, this is exactly what we did Saturday!  My Mr. Small Town was watching the Today Show one day last week and they had this Australian Chef on doing these Aussie-Style Ribs.  He was so impressed that he ask me to get the recipe and he wanted us to try them!  and so we did.

The reason I said get the ribs drunk is because the name of the recipe is "Rum 'n' Coke Ribs!


2 Racks of Pork Ribs


1 cup of Rum (yea, that's what I'm talking about)
3 cups of Cola (I used diet coke)
1-1/3 cps Tomato Ketchup
3-4 Dashes of Tabasco Sauce
2 Garlic Cloves, minced finely
4 Tablespoons Hoisin Sauce (it's in the Asian isle)

Combine all the marinade ingredients in a bowl, then place ribs in a pan and cover with the marinade and refrigerate overnight.  (I only marinated for about 6 hours and it was perfect)

Preheat your oven to 300 degrees and place pan of ribs uncovered in the oven for approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes depending on the size of your ribs.  Every 15 - 20 minutes, bast them in the sauce.  Remove ribs from the oven and have your grill ready.  Put them on the grill for 10-15 minutes to caramelize and lightly charred.  While the ribs are getting all that love in them, put the marinade in a saucepan and bring to a boil.  Reduce by half to serve with the ribs!

Call me crazy, but I think these were the best ribs I have ever had!  They were so tender and juicy and the sauce was absolutely delicious.  I have some leftover and cannot wait to use it on something else, like chicken.

  1. Oh yum! Memorial day is our annual rib fest. We eat until we are so messy you have to get the hose out.
